I have challenged Brain Scientists on “You are walking on a clear pathway absorbed in singing a song. Can your brain change the walking speed? No! Hence the brain is not the master.

Photographed in Buddha Gaya, India in the year 2016. The time difference between the two photographs was 30 seconds.

At present, intellectuals around the world argue over the presence of Mind and Consciousness without any defined answer. But over 2500 years ago, then people in the Indian region clearly understood the difference and related functions between the two. They knew the existence of what they called ‘Corrupt Conscious’ and its control over Mindset. Then Hermits in solitude by practice controlled the corrupt conscious and knew the power of a clean, pleasant, developed Mind. They had Theories* which are eternally valid and some are proved by present Neurologists. The Hermits with their develop Minds did many tasks that we call today, ‘Miracles’. Mind is the sixth sense organ that sense* Electric (Magnetic) stimulations. According to Veda texts, Mind supports the ‘Life after Death Cycle’*, which gathers good and bad, is stationed in the Heart of ordinary man*.

Corrupt Consciousness

The Consciousness we have in us today is unpleasant, stupid and corrupt. It is uncontrollable and changes rapidly, vigorously and in a disorderly fashion under the influence of defilements, specially ‘Desire’ and with outcomes of it, such as Greed, Jealousy, Animosity, Repugnance, Hatred, Conceit, Arrogance, Happiness, Love, Conscience, Melancholy, Plan and Decisions , or even with Anxiety and Sorrow. Though Benevolence! Is not corrupt, our benevolence is limited and not whole heartedly, it is again Desire. Desire (likes and dislikes) is embedded in all of us, not even an unborn is spared. Actually we are born because of the Desire* in us. The corrupt consciousness is stealthy and is influencing the Brain waves or the oscillation of Neurons of the Brain in the most stupid manner. In the present world material wellbeing has changed the life style of people with more requirements and desire. Such we all are Mad and Rush madly in our unending satisfactions, to gain before the other. (Youth may not agree to this but those who are suffering and those at old age with years behind them may agree.) In the absence* of corrupt Consciousness Brain Waves or electric currents of Neuron Cells become undisturbed and organized. That concentration of organized brain waves under the influence of ‘Pure Consciousness’ (Wisdom) can burst* into Electromagnetic Waves and related activities that we call `Miracles`. The experiments that are done at Neuron-science labs are with corrupt Brain Waves entangled in corrupt consciousness. The experiments done and results are yet the basics of Mind and fortunately ‘True Mind’ is far from testing, otherwise Trans cranial Magnetic Stimulations (TMS) will create a mad world.

Brain and Mind

For many of us, Mind and Consciousness seems to be the same or inseparable and work in unison. Many, especially for the educated, Mind does not exist and brain does everything. They do not believe of psychological tasks without brain influence. Complex experiments are been done in the last decades on neuron brain cells using EEG, MEG, FMRI, TMS, technology. But there are instances, where scientists find situations that are difficult to explain. At Hypnosis, Dorsal Anterior Cingulate of Salience network that contributes to person`s self-awareness decreases its activity but who stops that function? Can an outsider just by raising his hand, stops a complex Neuron function? The Visual Primary Prefrontal Cortex is tested for all activities, even such as Dream. According to scientists, because eye rolls (REM) people dream, but who rolls the eyes? After Hypnos most of the patients give up smoking but neuron science cannot explain why it happens. Imagine you are walking in a clear pathway absorbed in singing and the speed of your legs are constant and your Brain cannot change the speed. Here the brain is not the Master. If you want to change the walking speed, you must first stop your concentration (a brain activity) on the song. Then who supports the stopping of singing? — Consciousness, but conscious cannot do two things at a time[U1] and cannot change to another conscious on its own. Then who gets the consciousness to do it, as neurons are helpless and conscious is submerged? — Mind signals*. A brain dead person is dead for science such his raising of his finger or hand goes unanswered. But for Asians with a prolong history on mind activities, a brain dead person is not a dead person. In Colombo SriLanka in 1938 at an accident a man was thrown out of the bus he was travelling and the head was severed from the body, but the headless figure got up and walked in the direction of the head before falling down dead. And there are many rebirths cases in SriLanka that have got the attention of world renowned professors , where Kids ( when they can mutter few words) have related 100% accurately about their previous births, how the previous death took place, where he lived, recognizing of then parents and relatives, what he did and even his dressings. For the majority Buddhists of SriLanka, for Hindus or even for the Christians and Muslims all these are not unexplained or myths. In the Buddhist Doctrine there is a reason for each and every Incident, which is Law of `cause and effect`*. For all the above said incidents the answer is ‘Mind’.

Elimination of Corrupt Conscious

As Hermits did, if we practice continuously and vigorously to keep away corrupt consciousness then the Mind will become cleans and developed. Earlier people were capable to get rid of desire because they were of simple living with less requirements, their outwardly links were limited to fulfil basic necessities, their minds were full of compassion they could easily give away all they had but today we have to keep at least a few things or a few links, so desire instantaneously comes in. Then there were Recluses and Hermits in the interior jungles or in Himalaya, who kept away from the society to concentrate on Mindfulness. Those Hermits and Recluses practiced mind concentration exercises and gained various stages of Enlighten. These practices were aligned with traditions and they were not aware of how it happens or the underlining ‘Theory’ and the ‘Methodology’ to protect the gained development. In many cases Hermits lost the gained mind control, sometimes over a woman’s voice, those days woman’s voice was the main hindrance that aroused their desire defilement. Sakyamuni Gauthama Buddha found the ‘Theory’, excelling the Purification of Mind. He understood the deep seated intertwined nature of ‘consciousness and desire’ in all beings. And why it happens and the process of complete elimination of gathering of defilements. Buddha preached over 24000 Theories ( Suththa) on his Doctrine. Millions of recluses embraced the Doctrine in the then India, from Iran to Bangladesh of today. After many upheavals in the long history, the Dhama, the Doctrine of Buddha, was recorded and protected in the Island Nation of Srilanka as Buddha prophesied himself, in the pristine form.

The Theory of Elimination of Desire

Prince Siddharth of India, 2600 years ago denounced his lucrative kingship to become a recluse. He practiced in his solitude in the jungle for 6 years, mostly not eating or eating some leaves fallen from the tree he was seated to keep desire away. Imagine you are a recluse in the jungle in solitude practicing meditation, you have nothing of your own other than the cloth wrapped around your body that is used only to cover yourself and keeping away flies or from sickness. You move out from the tree you are seated and come back to the same place, then you are not inclined to the order, as you are attached to the tree with desire. Imagine your toe is bleeding but if you think of treating the toe, it is desire. Imagine a poison snake is crossing your path but you cannot stop to protect yourself, other than with ‘Loving Kindness’ towards the snake. It is such a difficult exercise. Siddhartha Recluse controlled the six sense organs with Meditation and got rid of desire completely, to attained Buddhahood. Meditation is an important Tool to control the corrupt consciousness. When somebody sits for ‘Breath Meditation’ he will concentrate in — out breath and he will automatically close the 5 sense organs but 6th is at large and you are to practice to control it. This is a very difficult exercise because Mind Conscious is such, you have to practice seriously and continuously under directions. Otherwise, though you are practicing hard and getting rid of defilements still, you may go in useless directions. For instance you are practicing the Sorrowfulness of life, though it is correct, if you get indulge in the sorrow, it is Desire. It is similar to the ordinary life and you are in the wrong direction, so you must practice impermanency of sorrowfulness.

According to earlier teachings under ` Veda` and very clearly in `Buddhist Teaching` there are 6 Consciousness, eye (ear, nose, tongue, body) consciousness and Mind consciousness. Buddha in his theory of `Patichcha Samuppadaya, the ’Existence of seen and unseen Beings’, pointed these 5 do not overlap each other and they function one at a time Mode. The 5 consciousness with the support of mind consciousness are to get information from the 5 sense organs. Up to recent times intellects thought image on the eye retina sends signals to brain (Visual Cortex) which is known as ‘Bottom Up’ in neuron science. But 2500 years ago Buddha taught, the function of consciousness is prominent in getting information from eye and like –wise with other 5 organs. Now scientists know it is ‘Top Down’ function of visual cortex to retina is more predictive of consciousness, to gather information from retina.

In recent times neuron scientist has noticed, even when area such as Primary Visual Cortex show clear electrical responses of stimulus, lack of awareness has taken place in some persons. In neuron science it is unanswered because of lack of knowledge of the functions of Mind Conscious. Buddha clarified this phenomenon. For an ordinary person once the Eye (Ear, Tongue, Nose, Body) conscious sense a picture (Sound, Taste, Smell, Feel), immediately the mind conscious which is already* there, is to support to catch the picture (Nama rupa Manasikara). Once eye consciousness and mind consciousness catch the picture, it creates Desire with past experience of brain memory of neuron patterns. Entangled in desire, mind conscious will activate more neurons and will support Cognitions, plan do, decide and storing of information. while the eye conscious will give more new pictures in the process to increase desire. If mind conscious did not come — in, then brain (Visual Cortex) will not rectify and will not catch the picture. In the previous lack of awareness, the mind conscious has not come to support (Manasikara) eye conscious, for lack of desire in the mind. This can happen for an epilepsy patient or as an ordinary situation, For example there are thousand s of sound signals around you, but you catch only one at a time (in a millisecond) with previous happy link within the mind or with an immediate past link or with an external danger vibration signal. But the awareness of other sound signals are lost. Normally once any one of the 5 conscious sense some effect, the mind conscious of an ordinary person instantaneously get linked to it with previous desire instincts.

Mind Function

Buddha describe in the Theory (Suttha) of ‘Existence of all Beings — Pattichcha Samuppadaya Suttha’, Mind gathers experiences pulse , breath, electrical and magnetic signals of internal vibrations and external vibrations such as sounds, light that falls on our body ( Kaya Sankara- Prapancha). These are registered in the Mind as Likes or Dislikes (attraction or distraction). Here the attraction and distraction should be of changing magnetic fields, of 10 femto tesla that lasting milliseconds to allow another vibration, like wise consciousness of the mind is created. (Buddha has not refer to this as nobody at that time has asked about it, if asked then only Buddha relates to a question). This generates Sensations (Chiththa Sankara- Sanna and Vedana) on an ordinary person with previous signals of likes, dislikes, habits and fear. Now the mind conscious is stronger and activate neurons and neurons in return activate the other 5 Conscious. Mind conscious is not cognitive at this initial stage, cannot think, plan or decide is regardless to veracity and monotones. So at the very initial stage when Mind open up it is clean, similar to what practicing Hermits have. This clean Mind, which is 90% of our mind (unconscious mind) cannot and does not function for ordinary human beings. As Mind Conscious gets entangled with the consciousness of other 5 sense organs that bring desire, it gets corrupt and become the culprit. Changing phenomenon of Neuron activities and Consciousness, in an unending spiral of activities, is never satisfied cannot stay in one mood, it wants better feelings and more feelings. For a normal person corrupt conscious is 10% of the mind (conscious mind) and it does all the tricks to make us stupid. It becomes the Master of Self (selfishness). We all believe in self, actually for us there is nothing without self. According to Buddha in his Theory if there are no 5 sense organs (conscious) then there is no self. For Buddha or his disciples there is no self. For them the 6 sense organs functions in a different way from the ordinary individual and there is no ‘Desire’.
